What is UX Design and how does it affect your product?

Creating an app or a website is quite simple. With so many website creation services like WordPress, Wix and Squarespace, creating your own website has never been simpler. It’s one thing to create a website and a whole other story when it comes to creating a usable, high traffic website. There are a number of important elements that go into creating the ‘perfect’ website or app but today, we’ll take a look at UX design.

What exactly is UX Design?

UX basically means User Experience(UI on the other hand, means User Interface). The Interaction Design Foundation defines UX as the process of creating products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function. UI design on the other hand defines the aesthetics of the app, basically making the app look good.

A tool is created to make work easier and the tool itself should be easy to handle. If not, it beats the purpose. The same applies to app user experience and interface design. Normally, developers would split the work amongst themselves so one person handles UX and UI and another person handles the backend coding. UX design is critical in mobile app development as it’s one of the factors people will use to determine if they’ll use the app or not.

A successful app is easy to use and users intuitively know how to use it. In no time they should know what steps to take, how to go back to a particular place etc.

UX and UI design overlap in many ways but the key takeaway is to know that UX is about enhancing customer satisfaction by offering optimal app usability and a smooth experience and UI defines how your app looks and behaves visually.

UI/UX design is basically merging human interaction

When coming up with a mobile app, developers, specifically UX and UI designers should think about human behaviour because the product is made for humans anyway. They should connect tech with human interaction – making it become and extension of them, of their lives.

There are very many mobile app developers in Nairobi but very few who can make a user-friendly and functioning app. At Digital 4 Africa, we have an experienced team of back end and front end developers, specialized in both website and app development. Check out our expertise and contact us for more information!
